Q: Why do I get a headache and sinus symptoms with approaching rainy, cold weather?
With lots of pain in the eyes.

A: When a front moves through your srea is changes the air pressure (the concept that is expressed by reading a barometer). You may just be hypersensitive to pressure changes. Does the same thing happen when you fly or anything like that? It might now due to the fact that they are severe pressure changes but usually people who get headaches with weather changes are hypersensitive to slight pressure changes.

Or you might be able to predict the future…. lol. Just kidding

Q: sinus headache?
I have had a horrible headache off and on for about 3 weeks which would start when I would cough or strain in any way. The headache stayed for two days in which I tried imitrex (I have had migraines for 3 years now), heat, ice and advil. I went to the walk in clinic and they sent me to the er for test in which they did a ct scan which showed all of the sinus cavities inflammed i guess. the doctor mentioned something about a sinus cavity located deep inside your head was causing me pain. I was in the worse pain ever and i havehad migrianes and kidney stones. he gave amoxicillan, steriod pack and percocet for pain. I have had no other sinus symptoms besides pain and pressure like drainge, cough, or ear and throat pain like I usally experience with a sinus infection. Is this a normal sinus headache? WIll I experience drainage after the pressure goes away? My biggest question is what are the chances I will have this again?

A: I would try a saline nasal rinse (not a spray.) A full warm water saline rinse goes in one nostril and out the other. It draws out all the gunk and shrinks the tissue (like swimming in the ocean). The buffered salt doesn’t ’sting’ as much as plain salt water. You can use a new method like Nasopure, or the vintage, Netipot.

Q: Is it possible to have a sinus-related headache if I do not have any other symptoms of a sinus infection?
Just wondering if this is possible. I definitely have pressure in my head that feels like sinus pressure, but I don’t have any other symptoms like nasal discharge or anything like that. If so, are there any good ways to help ease the pain/pressure without taking medicine?

A: Yes. Impacted sinus infection can be well up there and not dripping and hurts above the eyes and eyebrows. Sometimes across the forehead. But this type is rarer than a normal sinus infection. Have you had a cold or virus in the last week or two? Fever? Earache? These can also cause sinus pain. Also, you can get this pain after flying and having inner ear infections and it ends up in your sinuses and ears. Water in the canals from ears from swimming can bring on a sinus infection.

So there are many causes. Another is straining from the eyes, can hurt not only above the eyes and eyebrows, but behind the eyes as well. This comes with being on computer too long and not blinking enough.

If you still have this pain and it gets overwhelming, see your doctor.

Q: Sinus/pressure headache & sore throat with no other symptoms?
For three days I’ve had a sinus headache, like the one you get when you have a fever and if you move your head too quickly it aches, and a slightly sore throat that feels kind of tight but I’ve felt fine otherwise and I am fine doing my daily routine and such, unless I move my head too quickly lol. I haven’t been tired or had a blocked/runny nose or any other symptoms.

What is this supposed to be? Is it a cold, or allergies or what?
Btw I don’t have health insurance yet, I’m not going to the doctor lol

A: allergy or sinus infection. See your Dr.

Q: what are the symptoms of a sinus headache?
does one also make the neck tired and achy too?

A: An overview of sinus headaches, which are associated with a deep and constant pain in the cheekbones, forehead, or bridge of the nose.It could also move to the neck, as stiffness.

Q: Are my symptoms a migraine or sinus headache?
My symptoms are left and right side headaches, but mostly on my left side, with pain and pressure with swelling in my frontal and cheek area. I would always go to a urgent care clinic and they would take x-ray and say I had sinus infection and gave me antibitoic and sometimes IV. I went to my medical doctor and she thought it was a sinus infection and gave me amoxicillin which helped and made the swelling go down, but comes right back after I stop taking the antibitoic. She also had me get a cat scan and to see a ENT doctor. My cat scan came back normal, but I don’t know if that’s because I was on the antibitoic and it cleared it up and I went ENT and he said I didn’t have sinus, because the cat scan was normal. I went back to my medical doctor and she said I must have migraine then and gave me ibuprofen. So I don’t know if it is just a migraine or sinus headaches or both.

A: I suffer with both sinus problems and migraines so I know the difference. What you are describing sounds like sinusitis. It’s different things that can inflame your sinuses. For me, it is smoke, stiff air, certain scents or too much cold. It recently got horrible where it felt like it was a combo of both sinus and migraine pain. I had started a new job in a night club and it was the fact that it was hot in there, extra smokey without ventilation and me stepping out into the night’s cool air with short dresses and open toe shoes that aggravated my sinuses. I haven’t been back in over a month and still I’ve been having problems but they’re slowly going away and getting better. The only things that help me are taking a hot shower where the whole bathroom is steamy which provides the moisture and warmth your sinuses need and medicine that has a combo of pseudoephedrine hci(can only get this over the counter now) and ibprophen. The pseudoephedrine is the only thing that really helps the sinus pain. Anything else is not worth getting. I almost forgot, Mucinex DM or the one that says it helps with the nasal congestion(I think it’s Extra Strength) really helps too. If it’s as bad as I think it is for you, take a Mucinex in the morning with a full glass of water and a dose of the medicine with the pseudo&ibprophen and then take another Mucinex 8-12 hours later. It works best when you take two daily. If by chance you are plus size like I am, don’t be afraid to take an extra pill of the sinus medicine. If you’re average size then don’t. I hope that helps and I hope you feel better! I know you’re pain but this really helps me…P.S-It may be something in your enviroment that has aggravated this problem if it just started not too long ago. Just think what have you done differently lately. It could be a scent, detergent, new area, anything. You never know what can affect you. Just think about it.

Q: what symptoms do u personally get when you have a sinus headache?
Not infection just headache

A: Pain in the forehead & sinus pain. Temples ache & upper teeth hurt. Sinus headaches are the worst!

Q: Help! I’ve had a terrible headache for 2 days. No sinus symptoms, but it is worse when I bend over?

A: Sounds like a migraine, my mom gets them and it sometimes takes a week for them to go away entirely. You can try exedrine, its a mixture of aspirin, tylenol and caffeine, and is made specifically for migraines. If it doesn’t go away soon and since you have never had any problems like this before, I suggest you go to the doctor just in case.

Q: Whats the symptoms of a sinus pressure headache?
Some body suggested that i might have this so yeah…
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AuznU.4rpE0LFLibNA4mo7Xsy6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20090806044540AAUxirk please look at this link befor answering, it’s me asking this q

A: It could be, try taking Claritin and see if it helps. Another way to determine this is to bend forward, does it get worse ? feel like the front of your face is coming off ? that’s a definite sign. It could just be due to allergies, and the Claritin or like OTC meds will help.

Q: Can a sinus headache just randomly cause nausea?
I’ve had a splitting headache for a few hours, and now I’m feeling very nauseous.

I believe this is a sinus related headache, because I’ve had mild cold symptoms today. . . Have you ever experienced nausea with a sinus headache?

A: Yes it can. Headaches cause nausea on their own, but sinus headaches are caused by a buildup of pressure in the sinus cavities combined with swelling, inflammation, and occasionally infection. If the pressure in the sinus cavities gets great enough to cause pressure on the blood vessels and nerves to the brain, or worse, in the brain itself, nausea is sure to follow. Even without this, the other causes of sinus headaches are prime causes for nausea. Additionally, when a person has sinusitis, they require more fluid than normal, but tend to consume less. Thus, the resulting dehydration may lead to further nausea.

Because you are not entirely sure that this is caused by sinusitis, it is equally possible that you are developing the flu. In either case, you should be proactive. Take a steam bath to clear out and open your sinus cavities, and remove excess mucous before it helps to build an infection. You may want to take a de-congestant like Musinex DM or Sudafed D. If you develop a fever, or stay sick for more than a week, go to see a doctor, you may have developed an infection, or caught the flu.

Q: What symptoms of a sinus infection will cold medicine alleviate?
We thought my sister had a cold. She took cold medicine today, and it didn’t alleviate any of her symptoms, so we believe it began as a sinus infection instead of manifested into one from a cold. Is this possible? Should the cold medicine helped at least some of her sinus pressure, headache and nasal drainage/congestion?

A: The only sinus medicine that will really help congestion is sudafed or pseudoephedrine (generic name). You need to buy this behind the counter at the drugstore as some idiots make methamphetamine out of the active ingredient. If it is actually a sinus infection (lasts more than a few days), she needs to see the doctor for antibiotics or even steroids. Remember, your sinuses are very close to your brain and you do not want an infection there. I had to have surgery on my sinuses as many people do, because they are closed off by bone and infections can build up in these closed spaces. Nasal sprays like Afrin are OK for a few days, but no more. They have a rebound effect that makes your sinuses swell up after you use them, so you can be stuck using them for the rest of your life. Does she have a headache in the front of her face (eyes, cheeks, etc.) that feels like pressure? That can indicate sinus problems. If she’s not better in a few days, have her bend over forward and see if the pain gets worse-sinus pressure worsens in this position. If she doesn’t get better after a few days anyways, she needs to see a good ENT (Ear, Nose and Throat doctor), not just your family doctor. This can be very prolonged and painful if left untreated, trust me.

Q: Sinus headache over right eye with these symptoms….?
My right nasal cavity feels like someone poured pepper up my nose, no drainage, just a little stopped up. Pounding headache over and behind my right eye that goes down into the back of my neck. I get these every other week and these last for 2-3 days. I have taken Aleve, Excedrin Sinus Headache and Excedrin Migraine and they don’t phase it. I’m ready to beat my head against at wall! Anyone else get these? It’s only on my right side and I know it’s something screwed up in my sinus cavity because my upper right nostril hurts then I can touch areas on my eyebrow and side of my jaw and outer ear that are sore but feel better when I press hard on them. This affect the back of my neck. I’m going to the doctor as soon as my medical insurance kicks in at my new job but in the meantime I was wondering if anyone else has this and what they do to relieve the pain!!!!

A: This could be a migraine. People often mistake a migraine for sinus problems. Sometimes sinus problems trigger migraines. When do these occur? Do you get them after sleeping late, gettin up too early in the morning, eating certain foods, exposure to chemicals, dehydration. etc. It will help the doctor make the diagnosis if you keep a log of youir activities to see if anything triggers the headache.

Q: Is it possible to have a sinus infection without having symptoms of a runny nose?
My little boy keeps getting these bad headaches and the doctor said after a ct scan that there was “a little” something going on in the sinus area and he was treated with antibiotics, and was headache free for 2 weeks and now it is back. He has no other symptoms other than the headache. I thought sinus infections would at least have a runny nose with it, or being stuffy.

A: Yes, hay fever/sinusitis/allergies could be causing it. Some people sneeze, some people have runny noses… while others get headaches or nausea. I have a real bad time with motion sickness when my sinuses are infected. Even when they’re just irritated, before they become infected, I still feel sick and have a headache!

Maybe take him to see a Naturopath or allergies specialist. You don’t wanna keep putting him on antibiotics for allergies… you need to find the root of the issue. His immune system is overactive… there are many natural things that can help that such as nutrition/diet recommendations, herbal supplements and so forth. Goodluck!

Q: Does my continuous headache/head pressure sound like a sinus headache/infection?
I have been having headaches/head pain for the past 3 months. I have been to several doctors and had a brain MRI, but none have been able to help me. After telling a couple friends about my headaches, they have suggested it could be sinus related, but I wanted to ask others who have sinus headaches. Here are my symptoms:
Left side temporal headache/head PRESSURE pain. Started out as severe and shooting pain for 2 weeks, then became dull and throbbing. Sometimes feels like its under my eye/behind my eye and on the side of my nose, sometimes feels like its radiating from the back of my head/neck. The pain is there almost EVERY single day but has left for maybe 2 days at a time at the most and comes and goes throughout the day. Also, I have been having muscle twitches under my left eye for the past 3 weeks. The only treatment I have had is nasal spray which does have an effect. I haven’t been sick, but I do have a lot of drainage/mucous in the back of my throat & occassional sore throat.
Sorry it is supposed to say the nasal spray does ‘not’ have an effect.
ALSO – I forgot to add that the pain increases with sneezing/coughing/straining and leaning over.

A: It seems more likely that you are experiencing a
problem with your vision, do you wear glasses? If you do you may need to see your optometrist, if not you need to see an optometrist. Thank God, your MRI was negative for problems. Generally radiography test like x-rays and cat scans and MRI’s can also show any type of sinus abnormality. However your description appears to be more related to the optic area. Check with an optometrist, make sure you tell them how long you’ve experienced these symptoms. If it is sinus related try Benadryl 25mgs. and see if there’s any relief. Generally Benadryl (diphehydramine) can alleviate the problem with out the effects of taking a pseudophedrine medication like Sudafed. (if medicine makes you sleepy, take half the tab=12.5mgs. instead of 25mgs.)
The muscle twitching could be related to your eyes having to work harder to compensate. Most people experience this when they work on the computer for many hours without a break.

Q: Sick husband, sinus headache?
My husbands sick and I don’t know what to do.. I think it might be a sinus headache, his symptoms that I know are: fatigue, pressure in the nasal thingy like he can’t breath and he feels congested.. and a fever. He can barely move though and he seems like he’s really sore.

(my husband, never gets sick- ever.)

I tried to make him some chicken noodle soup but he won’t eat. Is there anything I should do or should get him from the store to help?? :-/ I’m worried.
ps. he won’t let me set him up with a doctors appt, or call a nurse because he’s stubborn. ..>.<

A: Treatments and drugs

If you’re diagnosed with sinusitis, your doctor may recommend antibiotics. Be sure to finish the entire course of medication you are prescribed- even if your signs and symptoms disappear before all the pills or capsules are gone. This is the only way to eradicate the germs causing the infection. If the sinusitis is related to inflammation or allergies, your doctor may prescribe corticosteroid nasal sprays or pills.

As the sinus infection clears up, the sinus headaches should disappear. In the meantime, over-the-counter pain relievers, decongestants and saline nasal spray might help you feel better. Use these products only as directed. It may help to drink plenty of fluids as well.

If a structural problem in your nasal cavity is contributing to sinusitis or sinus headaches, surgical correction may be recommended.
